Fall Compressed Into One Perfect Day of Photography

DSC01331 Edit AuroraHDR Edit

This was exactly what I needed. After a difficult summer and fall, I needed a perfect day like this. I don’t think I could have picked a better day and a better location as far as fall colors are concerned. The yellows and oranges were popping… no, exploding… and the compositions were as plentiful as they were radiant. Only downside was the more than gloomy weather, but I’m not sure I would have survived a trifecta of a perfect location, perfect timing, and perfect light. It was overwhelming enough as it was.

Chances are this was my only real fall photography outing. The season is short, and bad weather and a busy schedule are looming. But if this was it, I will be more than happy.

Back on My Feet: A First Taste of Fall After the Injury

DSC01000 AuroraHDR Edit

My test run after the leg injury that has prevented me from getting out in the woods for almost a month. My leg did pretty well. I was a little worried if I would be able to get back up after kneeling down to pose for the self-portrait that you see here, but the leg held up fine.

This was also a welcome taste of fall in its early stages. The light was as harsh as the reflections in the water were sharp. But a beautiful day and some nice images. I have been in the same location many times, and I never know if will be generous or a dud. This was one of the better visits.

Between Trees and High Voltage

A walk in a small forest I had never visited before. Perhaps the most significant feature is how a row of huge powerlines cuts through it, which I tried to document. Other than that, it was a rather unremarkable Read more

Exploring New Nature Walkway

DSC09372 AuroraHDR Edit

In connection with the construction of a brand new hospital (a “super hospital”, no less) here in my town of Hillerød, a new nature area has been established. A wooden walkway runs through it and makes for a really nice 30-minute hike, with some pretty spots along the way.

I Discovered an Unexplored Forest

DSC08073 AuroraHDR Edit

I finally got around to visit a small forest about 10 kilometers from my house. I can’t explain why I haven’t gone there before. It turned out to be absolutely wonderful and surpassed all my expectations. I’d hardly left my car before I started shooting, and didn’t stop until I was back at my car several hours later.

A 30-Minute Walk Through Hillerød on a Summer’s Day

On a hot day in July, while waiting for my wife to get a haircut, I took the opportunity to go for a walk through town with my camera, which, as the camera opportunist that I am, I had Read more

Went for my first walk in a month

I’ve been sick on and off through most of June, and as we’ve entered July, it still flares up every few days, leaving me with a lack of energy and just not in a mood to go out. But last Thursday I had a good day and went out for a rather long walk. Photograpy-wise it wasn’t anything to speak of. I got a couple of images I was happy with, but nothing I haven’t done better before. Oh well… It was just nice to get out and to come home and have something new to edit.

My Top 10 Woodland Images From the Winter

DSC06170 AuroraHDR Edit

This last winter was not a very active season for me. It may be getting a little harder each year to convince myself that the the leafless, gray forest landscape is just as exciting as any other time of year. It’s not. Sure, you can find the occasional banger, but you can also walk around for two hours without even getting your camera out of the bag.

But anyway, here are my best woodland shots from the past winter, in no particular order. I try to focus on pineforest as that stays about the same all year, but sometimes the bare, decidious trees line up in a nice way, too. The one showing a snowclad tree in golden sunlight, I consider among my best woodland shots ever.
