That Moment Just Before the Green Explosion

It starts out as a trickle. Green leaves pop out here and there. Especially in the sunny spots on the edge of the forest or in clearings. The trickle becomes faster, and then… an explosion of green where the entire forest just seems to change color from one day to the next.

A couple of days ago, I caught the trickle in my local forest. Most of the forest is still winter brown, but green spots are starting to appear everywhere, like bright green snow flakes. In a matter of days, this delicate green advance guard will be swallowed up by an overwhelming tsunami of lush greenery that can leave you utter breathless. But for now I was more than happy to explore this early stage of spring after a long six months of brown and gray.
